The Kairos Leader: Answering God’s Call at the Appointed Time
| “For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” – Esther 4:14 (NKJV) |
Leadership is often associated with vision, influence, and decision-making. Yet one of the most important aspects of leadership is recognizing and responding to the right moment. The Greek word Kairos refers to an appointed or opportune time, a moment when action is required to fulfill a greater purpose. While we cannot control timing, we can prepare ourselves to recognize and respond when God opens the door.
Kairos leadership is about more than being in the right place at the right time. It is about understanding that God strategically positions people to fulfill His purposes. Effective leaders discern these moments and respond with faith, wisdom, and obedience.
Esther: A Leader for Such a Time as This
Esther’s story is one of the clearest examples of Kairos leadership in Scripture. Though she did not seek a position of influence, God placed her in the palace at a critical moment in history. When the Jewish people faced destruction, Mordecai challenged her with a question that still speaks to leaders today: “Who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
His words remind us that leadership is not merely about holding a position; it is about recognizing when God is calling us to act. Esther could have chosen comfort and silence. Instead, she embraced her calling and courageously stepped into God’s purpose. Her example teaches us that Kairos moments often arrive as challenges, difficult decisions, or unexpected opportunities. The question is whether we will have the faith and courage to respond.
Answering the Call Today
The same principle applies to us today. Whether in business, ministry, family, or community, God places us in positions of influence for reasons beyond ourselves. Every season presents opportunities to serve, lead, and make an impact. As Christian entrepreneurs and business leaders, we are called to discern not only what God is calling us to do, but also when He is calling us to do it.

This important theme will be explored at the upcoming Nehemiah Business Summit, formerly known as Nehemiah Week. This annual global gathering brings together Christian entrepreneurs, Kingdom business leaders, and aspiring business owners through the Kingdom Business Tour, the Biblical Entrepreneurship Conference, and the International Business Plan Competition.
