Risk Tolerance vs. Risk Appetite
- Risk Tolerance: How comfortable you are emotionally with the possibility of loss.
- Risk Appetite: How much margin you actually have to lose without damaging your financial position.
You may have tolerance but not appetite—or vice versa. For example:
- High tolerance, low appetite: “I don’t mind losing money, but I can’t afford to lose it.”
- Low tolerance, high appetite: “I have the margin, but I cannot accept the idea of losing it.”
Biblical Approach to Risk
- Seek God’s will and operate within your calling
- Adhere to biblical principles over speculation and greed
- Diversify your investments to manage exposure
- Use wise counsel from coaches and professionals
Biblical entrepreneurs are not called to gamble, but to invest with discernment—balancing risk with trust in God’s provision.
