Reclaiming Arts & Entertainment - Nehemiah Entrepreneurship Community

Reclaiming Arts & Entertainment

Entertainment

The concept of the seven mountains of culture was developed by Loren Cunningham (founder of YWAM) and Bill Bright (founder of Campus Crusade) in 1975. It was a God-given, world-changing strategy about how to put Matthew 28:19-20 into practice. They concluded that in order to transform any nation with the gospel of Jesus truly, we must reach out to seven different spheres/mountains of society:

  1. Religion
  2. Family
  3. Education
  4. Government
  5. Media
  6. Arts & Entertainment
  7. Business
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJV)

Among the seven mountains, the mountain of Arts & Entertainment is one of the most influential forces shaping our society. This mountain has the power to shape emotions, perspectives, and values through music, film, theater, visual arts, sports, and cultural events. It influences culture often more subtly but deeply than others. Art captures the imagination and heart of a generation, often bypassing logic and going straight to emotions, making it a powerful cultural force.

From a biblical perspective, arts and entertainment are powerful expressions of the creativity God has placed within humanity. As people made in the image of a creative God (Genesis 1:27), our ability to create music, stories, visual art, and performances reflects His nature. Artistic expression is not merely for amusement; it has the potential to glorify God, convey truth, and uplift others. Throughout Scripture, we see examples of art being used for worship and spiritual connection, such as the Psalms of David, which blend poetry and music to express deep emotion and praise.

However, the Bible also warns that creativity can be misused to distort truth and promote ungodly values. Therefore, Christians are called to engage the arts with discernment and purpose, creating and supporting content that reflects beauty, truth, hope, and the light of God in a world often filled with confusion and darkness.

The Mountain of Arts and Entertainment is not just about fun or fame—it is a battlefield of ideas and values. Whoever controls the stories, images, and rhythms often shapes the soul of the culture. It’s a vital space for believers to engage with creativity, truth, and impact.
