REBUILDING THE WALLS OF JAMAICA: A CALL TO GIVE, A CALL TO RESTORE
There are moments when giving becomes more than generosity—it becomes participation in restoration. Jamaica is living in one of those moments.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, communities across the island were left facing loss: damaged infrastructure, interrupted livelihoods, and uncertain futures. Yet even in devastation, a deeper call has emerged—a call to rebuild not only what was broken, but what sustains families, churches, and communities.
Today, we’re inviting our community, including you, to be part of that rebuilding.
A Biblical Call That Still Speaks
When the prophet Nehemiah heard that the walls of Jerusalem had been destroyed, his heart was burdened. He wept, prayed, and sought wisdom. Yet his compassion did not stop at prayer—it moved him to action. Nehemiah answered the call to return to his homeland and rebuild the wall, knowing that restoration would protect the people and restore their dignity.
That same spirit is alive in Jamaica today—and it has a name and a face.
A modern-day example of Nehemiah’s calling can be seen through Dawkins International Ministries (DIM), a partner of the Nehemiah E-Community Orlando Center and A&P International. In a profound act of obedience and faith, their leadership moved from Central Florida to Jamaica just one month before Hurricane Melissa struck. What appeared to be an unexpected relocation has revealed itself as divine positioning.
Today, DIM is actively rebuilding the “walls” of Jamaica—physically, spiritually, and ethically—serving communities in the midst of recovery. Like Nehemiah, they did not retreat in the face of destruction; they stayed, stood firm, and began the work of restoration alongside the people.
Why These Scholarships Matter
Through the Business Lifecycle Course scholarships, we are investing in eight Jamaican small businesses that serve as vital anchors in their communities. These enterprises span agriculture, food production, water access, media advocacy, and youth and community development—meeting both immediate and long-term needs across the island. These are not just businesses—they are sources of employment, stability, and hope. Many are led by ministry-minded leaders who see their work as a calling, not merely a career.
These scholarship-supported businesses include:
- Local agricultural leaders focused on egg production and diversified catch-crop farming, strengthening food security.
- Chicken-rearing operations that also address a critical need by providing purified drinking water in areas where access is scarce.
- Family-led poultry and farming initiatives committed to resilience and sustainability.
- A community-based leader working in media relations, while advocating for senior citizens and underserved populations.
- Experienced farmers cultivating cash crops that support local markets and rural livelihoods.
- A ministry-led team serving as a missions and community liaison, supporting schools and leading programs for children and youth.
Together, these leaders represent a holistic vision of rebuilding—one that nourishes bodies, strengthens economies, gives voice to the vulnerable, and invests in the next generation.
Your support equips these leaders with:
- Practical business training for sustainable growth
- Strategic tools to identify where they are and how to get to the next business stage
- Long-term vision to serve their communities with excellence
- Confidence to lead in a season of recovery
This is how rebuilding becomes sustainable. This is how recovery becomes transformation.
From Destruction to Redemption
Scripture reminds us of a powerful promise: what the enemy meant for evil, the Creator turns into good. Hurricane Melissa brought devastation—but it did not bring defeat. What was meant to destroy is now becoming a catalyst for renewed leadership, stronger businesses, and restored communities.
Every scholarship funded is a brick laid in the wall.
Every supporter is part of building a better Jamaica.
And, every gift is a declaration that hope will rise again.
An Invitation to Build Together
Nehemiah did not rebuild alone. The wall was restored because people came together—each contributing what they could, each committed to the work.
Today, we invite you to stand alongside our ministry partner, these eight business owners, and the many more entrepreneurs we hope to empower with the tools to transform their country. Your generosity directly impacts their ability to rebuild, employ others, and serve Jamaica with integrity and faith.
This is your opportunity to turn compassion into action.
Together, we can rise to rebuild the walls of Jamaica—stronger, wiser, and rooted in purpose.
Will you help lay the next brick?
