“‘And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’” – John 8:32 (NKJV) |
Did you wake up in the middle of the night with a brilliant business idea? Maybe, you were daydreaming while at your desk thinking about what it would be like to be your own boss. Maybe you were inspired at an event to create a way to fill a need where you saw a gap. Whatever your situation, you are clearly an entrepreneur at heart. The question that needs to be answered is, “Now what?”
Unfortunately, not every good idea we, as entrepreneurs, have is a God Idea! As entrepreneurs, we have millions of ideas. However, a God Idea is always on target with where He wants us to go.
Here at the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) E-Community Center, we offer an Identity & Destiny class that helps entrepreneurs and others understand who God has called them to be. Identity & Destiny helps you understand the difference between WHO God created you to be and what He created you to DO. Understanding the difference between the two is a life-changing experience.
I tend to be a mover and shaker, and when I have an idea, I move quickly. One of the biggest entrepreneur life changes I made was learning to slow down when making business decisions. Understanding where you are in the Nehemiah Business Life Cycle is important in mapping out your success.
The first stage in the Life Cycle is Discovery. The Discovery stage can be frustrating because your amazing idea is simply brewing, waiting for actions to be taken. You are probably praying for answers and solutions. You might be seeking education and training opportunities. You definitely need to be researching and testing your idea. And, of course, you need to be setting yourself up for success by preparing yourself financially to be able to support your next steps.
If you blow past this step without doing your due diligence in all areas, your next steps will become more complicated. If you transition to the next stage in the Life Cycle, which is Start-Up, and you haven’t prepared yourself with the proper training and education, you will be forced to get training while simultaneously opening a new venture. If you move on to Start-Up without the proper capital, you won’t be able to complete the necessary purchases needed to open your new business and be effective. This is where our scripture comes in and reminds us to know the truth.
“‘And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’” – John 8:32 (NKJV)
The ultimate foundation of John 8:32 is to know Jesus and that, in fact, Jesus sets us free. But when applying this scripture to business, it is important to understand that we must know the truth about where we are in the Nehemiah Business Life Cycle and not jump from one stage to the next without fully comprehending if we are truly ready to move forward.
Knowing Jesus helps us to be secure in who we are.
Knowing Jesus helps us to listen with a discerning ear for clues and upcoming opportunities.
Knowing Jesus helps us to be confident in our decision-making processes.
You can see how knowing the truth sets us free, not just spiritually but also as an entrepreneur. We are free to pursue the visions and dreams He has given us when we stay rooted in the truth and finish each stage confidently rather than pushing for things we can’t afford or haven’t fully prepared ourselves to steward.
I encourage you to think through the stages of Discovery and determine if you have the answers and the resources you need to move forward. If you don’t, slow down. Be honest with yourself and ask God to give you divine inspiration on how to be fully prepared for your next step.
