From Financial Struggle to Freedom: The Kamuiru’s Journey of Faith, Discipline, and Passive Income
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.“ – Genesis 1:28a
On October 16, 2025, Nehemiah Entrepreneurship Community hosted its quarterly Global Forum, a vibrant gathering of entrepreneurs and Kingdom investors from around the world. This quarter’s theme — “Passive Income” — invited our community to explore what it means to build lasting wealth and freedom while remaining faithful stewards of God’s resources. We recognize that everyone may not start a business, but everyone has talents that they can use to realize financial freedom, enabling them to give towards advancing the gospel.
At our October Global Forum, longtime Nehemiah members David and Zipporah (“Zippy”) Kamuiru shared their inspiring journey from renting a small apartment with limited means to becoming free, passive-income investors who now steward multiple investments and give with uncommon generosity.
As they told the audience, “It’s the hardest path, but it works.”
The Forum explored a biblical vision of passive income as spiritual and eternal rest—the fruit of obedience, stewardship, and alignment with God’s divine order.

What Is Passive Income for a Believer?
For believers, passive income isn’t about luxury or escape; it’s about manifesting God’s blessing, rest, righteousness, and justice.
David & Zippy described it as:
- The alignment of systems, assets, and creativity with divine order, bearing fruit even in rest.
- The fruit of abiding in the Vine, walking in obedience, and reflecting God’s creative harmony.
- A lifestyle of abiding in God’s presence, living in His purpose and provision, not in the pressure of performance or culture.
Their guiding principles were simple but powerful:
Live beneath your means. Work consistently. Increase your knowledge.

Why Passive Income?
Grounded in Scripture, the Kamuirus shared two mandates that define their journey:
- Fruitfulness Mandate (Genesis 1:28, John 15, Matthew 25)
Christ is the Vine; we are the branches, created to bear fruit.
God’s gifts are for multiplication, not stagnation. - Stewardship Mandate (Matthew 25)
Everything belongs to God; we are His managers.
He expects us to multiply what He’s entrusted; faithful stewardship is worship.
“We pursued passive income not to escape work, but to multiply what God gave us and bless others.” — David & Zippy Kamuiru

The 4 Stages of Financial Freedom
From their presentation, the Kamuirus outlined a path any believer can follow:
- Creation – Build income streams through seeking God, employment, business, investments, and creative ventures.
- Management – Grow through budgeting, debt control, literacy, and mentorship.
- Multiplication – Leverage compound interest, systems, and automation for sustained growth.
- Sustaining Freedom – Let income work for you, live from margin, serve God fully, and give generously.
“Passive income isn’t passive character. We worked the plan, beneath our means, consistently, always learning—until our money started working for us.” — David & Zippy Kamuiru

The Impact of Your Giving
Because of donors like you, families such as the Kamuirus can:
- Access biblical entrepreneurship and other Training courses and Coaching.
- Join a global community that challenges and supports them.
- Build multiple income streams that fund generosity and ministry in their nations.
Today, David and Zippy may not own a business, but are living proof that God blesses faithful stewardship. Their freedom and generosity echo Nehemiah’s mission: building Kingdom businesses that transform lives and nations.
Passive Income as Kingdom Stewardship
For Nehemiah, passive income is not about wealth for its own sake, but about creating the margin to serve God more freely. When believers’ resources work for them, they can focus their time and energy on discipleship, family, and Kingdom impact. It’s a reflection of God’s design for rest and fruitfulness, where work becomes worship, and financial freedom fuels generosity.
