JUNE 2024: NEHEMIAH’S IMPACT IN ASIA – AN UPDATE FROM OUR RECENT TRIP TO ASIA

Asia
“And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”
– Matthew 7:25 (ESV)

Gina and I, along with one of our board members, Ron Wilkinson, and his wife Karen, have just returned from a fruitful two-week visit to Malaysia. This was our first trip to Asia since the onset of COVID-19, and it was both a joyous and impactful journey, thanks to your generous support.

Our trip began with the beautiful wedding of Poh Sim, our Director of Innovation and Technology, to Travis Parr, an American missionary beloved by all who has served in Malaysia for many years. Their wedding was a perfect blend of Asian and American traditions, set against the backdrop of Penang’s historical landmark.

During our stay, we conducted the Nehemiah Business Life Cycle Course for 22 entrepreneurs at various stages of their businesses in Penang and Kuala Lumpur. Additionally, we led several seminars and spoke at a Sunday service at a local church, impacting nearly 300 attendees combined. These events were instrumental in deepening our engagement with the local entrepreneurial community.

We had the privilege of touring two remarkable businesses led by members of the Nehemiah Entrepreneurship Community. We visited Kairos Agriculture, led by CEO Ezra Tan, who is pioneering smart vanilla farming and creating job opportunities for single mothers and local farmers. We also visited Precious Pages, the largest Christian bookstore in Penang, managed by founder Josephine Yoong, who has expanded her mission to publishing Christian literature that impacts lives across Malaysia.

Our trip also allowed us to provide personalized coaching to Annie Choo, CEO of Nova Limited, who has faced significant challenges with her development projects. We are advising her and her family on navigating these challenges with a focus on long-term sustainability and succession planning.

These visits are crucial as they allow us to connect personally with our team and the communities we serve, understanding their needs, and exploring further opportunities for growth and impact. They remind us of the importance of our mission to support Christian entrepreneurs in Asia, particularly at a time when regional challenges require principled leadership and innovative solutions.

Your continuous support makes this possible. We are committed to resuming our annual trips to Asia to bring the Nehemiah Entrepreneurship Community closer to sustainability and to foster a generation of entrepreneurs who embody and promote a Kingdom worldview.

Thank you once again for your generosity and prayers. We look forward to sharing more updates as we continue this journey together.

Sent in love from your grateful and humble servant,
