Thanksgiving started in the early 17th century when the Mayflower, a small ship that carried around an assortment of around 100 religious Englishmen who sought refuge and religious freedom in the New World, set sail to what they were hoping to be the Houston River. However, despite their plans, they anchored near Cape Cod and were welcomed by the inhabitants of the new land, the Wampanoag Native Americans. The Wampanoags helped the newcomers survive and later, both groups celebrated together during a harvest feast now known as Thanksgiving.

Today, Thanksgiving is an honored holiday in American culture that has continuously inspired acts of gratitude. Americans surround themselves with friends and family while indulging on a day of feasting and football. So as Americans prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow, the Nehemiah staff would like to thank you for the trust you have put into our services as we wish you all a Thanksgiving that is full of abundance and light.
