Couples in Business Retreat Gathers in Cancún, Mexico
Gina and I, along with six other couples from four different states across the U.S., gathered this past week in Cancún, Mexico, for our 5th Annual Couples in Business (CIB) Retreat. The CIB Retreat is an annual event hosted by the Nehemiah Entrepreneurship Community to provide an educational and recreational experience that helps couples strengthen their marriage, align their vision, and experience greater success and impact in business.
The retreat has three primary objectives:
- Connection: To help couples from various seasons of marriage and business stages connect with one another for learning, fun, and fellowship.
- Enhancement: To equip couples with tools to enrich both their marriage and business through biblically integrated education.
- Renewal: To offer couples protected time to rest, refresh, and revive their relationship in a beautiful and relaxing environment.
The CIB Retreat is organized by the Nehemiah E-Community Couples in Business Life Group—one of several Life Groups offered by Nehemiah. The CIB Life Group meets every 2nd Saturday of the month from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM Pacific Time, except in December during the retreat. Its purpose is to support Christian married couples in business as they pursue a thriving marriage and a successful kingdom business.
This year’s retreat was held at the Hyatt Regency Secrets Divine Cancún, a five-star resort where couples stayed for five nights and four days. Participants represented six different industries: health care, senior living, financial services, renewable energy, and auto repair. Two couples were empty nesters, while the remaining five were in the parenting stage. In terms of business stages, two couples were in succession, one was at breakeven, and four were in start-up mode.
Retreat activities included four days of education sessions averaging three hours per day, with the remainder of each day devoted to rest, relaxation, connection, and fellowship. There was also a recreation day, highlighted by a private snorkeling excursion on a private boat with lunch, and a devotional on a secluded beach in the Caribbean Sea.
Topics covered during this year’s retreat included:
- A review of the 7 Stages of the Business Life Cycle and the 12 Seasons of Marriage
- The Seven Principles of Effective Parenting
- Two panel discussions—one on Parenting, the other on Exiting the Business
- Developing a 12-Month Family Action Plan
Each education session began with a devotion led by a different couple who also shared their personal journey and testimony. The retreat concluded with communion and a presentation from each couple summarizing their 12-month family action plan in two minutes.
Planning is already underway for the 2026 Couples in Business Retreat, scheduled for December 2nd–7th, with the location to be announced. Each retreat is limited to a maximum of 12 couples.
