Building a Sustainable Business while Partnering with your Spouse

BUSINESS

Building a business is challenging—making it sustainable is even harder. However, perhaps one of the greatest challenges is building a business with your spouse while ensuring it doesn’t negatively impact your marriage.

According to a Forbes Magazine article titled Navigating the Balancing Act of Marriage and Business Ownership,

“Marriage is difficult for everyone, but it can be particularly challenging for business owners. The demands of running a business, as well as the financial pressures that come with it, can put a strain on personal relationships.”

Similarly, an article published by the NIH National Library of Medicine states,

“As a business team, couples stand out because of their ability to perform business and household duties flexibly while also bringing tensions from home into work.”

The conclusion? Building a successful business with your spouse is difficult—but not impossible. Many have done it, I am doing it, and many couples in the Nehemiah Entrepreneurship Community are successfully navigating this journey. One such couple is David and Katie Witter.
