Dr. Kim R. Grimes Featured on the Nehemiah Business Life Cycle Podcast
I recently had the distinct honor of hosting Dr. Kim R. Grimes, who leads one of our Life Groups, Heaven on Earth Women Life Group, on the Nehemiah Business Life Cycle Podcast, and it was truly one of the most powerful and heartfelt conversations we’ve had. Dr. Grimes, known for her leadership development, faith-driven impact, and transformational coaching, brought both deep wisdom and practical insight that I know will resonate with entrepreneurs and leaders across our community.
During our conversation, Dr. Grimes shared her journey of purpose, perseverance, and calling—giving listeners a transparent look into how her faith has shaped her leadership path. What stood out immediately was her emphasis on what she calls “radical authenticity”—being unapologetically who God created you to be.
We discussed the danger of “masking” in business—something I see many entrepreneurs struggle with. Dr. Grimes explained that too often, people try to replicate someone else’s formula for success instead of embracing their own God-given design. She made it clear that true leadership begins with self-governance. If we’re not leading ourselves with honesty and clarity about who we are, we won’t be able to effectively lead others. She also challenged the tendency to “dumb down” our brilliance just to fit in, reminding us that owning our gifts is actually an act of stewardship.
Another powerful part of our discussion centered on the Nehemiah Strategy of stewardship versus ownership. We talked about how our businesses are not truly ours—they are entrusted to us by God to help rebuild and restore our communities. This shift from a survival mindset to a Kingdom mindset changes everything. It reframes business as a vehicle for ministry—whether that’s creating ethical jobs, solving real problems, or serving others with excellence.
One of the most moving moments for me as a host was hearing Dr. Grimes share her personal story. She spoke openly about becoming a widow at just 24 years old after her husband was killed in a military training accident. Her transparency about walking through grief—navigating seasons of anger, bitterness, and mental fog—was incredibly powerful. She reminded us that resilience is not about avoiding pain, but about allowing God to use that pain to refine our purpose. It was a sobering and inspiring reminder that our greatest platforms often come from our deepest trials.
What I also appreciated was how practical the conversation became. Dr. Grimes shared clear frameworks for what it means to be a “Marketplace Minister.” We talked about the importance of partnership—just as Nehemiah didn’t rebuild the wall alone, neither should we. She emphasized the value of community, mentorship, and surrounding ourselves with the right people. She also walked through how to identify and eliminate limiting beliefs—the internal narratives that hold us back—and replace them with truth grounded in faith.

Beyond the podcast, I’m especially grateful that Dr. Grimes is actively pouring into our community by leading one of our Nehemiah E-Community Life Groups. These Life Groups are designed to bring entrepreneurs and marketplace leaders together for weekly or monthly devotional and prayer times, with a focus on real-life business challenges. They provide a space to gain insight on day-to-day decisions through the lens of biblical values, using devotionals specifically created for marketplace application.
Dr. Grimes leads the Heaven on Earth Women Life Group, which meets twice monthly on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays at 12:00 PM Eastern Time. It’s a powerful opportunity for women entrepreneurs to grow spiritually, build meaningful relationships, and strengthen their leadership journey in a supportive, faith-centered environment.
