How's Your Mental Health? - Nehemiah Entrepreneurship Community

How’s Your Mental Health?

Mental

“How’s your mental health?” is a simple question—but one that too often goes unasked in the hustle and grind of modern business.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health conditions have increased by 25% globally since COVID-19, with 1 in 8 people now living with some form of mental disorder. These numbers reflect a global crisis—but they also hit especially close to home for entrepreneurs.

The Freeman Study found that entrepreneurs are 8%–24% more likely than the general population to experience mental health challenges like depression, anxiety, and ADHD. A 2018 University of California, Berkeley study also highlighted that entrepreneurs are significantly more prone to ADHD, a finding echoed by Small Business Economics, which reported that 29% of entrepreneurs self-report ADHD, compared to just 5%–9% of the general adult population.

These statistics are more than numbers—they reflect real people navigating complex mental health landscapes while building and running businesses. And it’s not just entrepreneurs themselves. The mental health of employees is also a growing concern, placing additional pressure on leaders to not only care for their own well-being but also foster healthy, resilient organizational cultures.

So, how are we supposed to lead in this climate of uncertainty, economic fluctuation, and personal stress?

The Mental Health Assessment for Kingdom Entrepreneurs is a reflective tool designed to help faith-driven business leaders evaluate their overall well-being in alignment with their Kingdom purpose. Based on 3 John 1:2, it examines seven key areas: spiritual rhythm, mental and emotional health, self-care, relational connection, business health, financial stability, and rest. Entrepreneurs rate themselves on a scale from 1 (Rarely) to 5 (Consistently), offering a comprehensive view of their current health and balance. The scoring framework provides valuable insight:

  • 150–175: Thriving – You are stewarding your life and business well; continue the rhythm.
  • 125–149: Growing – Strong practices are in place; focus on strengthening weak areas.
  • 100–124: Warning – Signs of imbalance; time to reassess priorities and rhythms.
  • Below 99: Red Flag – Health and spiritual well-being are at risk; seek support and reset.

This assessment serves as a practical guide to help Kingdom entrepreneurs stay rooted, resilient, and intentional in every area of life and leadership.
