On May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, George Floyd, a black man, was killed by white police officer, Derek Chauvin. During an arrest Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for the majority of 9 minutes while George begged “I can’t breathe”. Several other officers where involved by monitoring crowds and helping to restrain Floyd. Even after George was motionless and had no sign of a pulse Derek did not refrain from his deadly position until medics instructed him to.
During this edition of Nehemiah’s E-Community Podcast we sit down with senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, Dr. David Swanson, so he can share his sentiments towards our most recent social crisis in Our Response to George Floyd’s Incident Part IX – Spiritual.
Dr. Swanson’s congregation is among the largest Presbyterian churches in the country. Dr. Swanson serves as the Managing Chair of the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness, is a founding board member of Orlando Together, and is on the board of Four Roots Farm and Agricultural Center. He is also one of 50 writers for the Miami Herald statewide influencer series. He is active in speaking for conferences and retreats around the country, especially in the area of marriage and family.
