So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. — Genesis 1:27 |
Each year for the past four years, the Nehemiah Couples in Business Life Group has hosted the Couples in Business Retreat, bringing together entrepreneurial couples to recharge, reconnect, and realign their business and personal goals.
On December 12th, 2024, five couples boarded flights from both the East Coast and West Coast to attend the 4th Annual Nehemiah Couples in Business Retreat in the beautiful Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Despite their long journeys and travel fatigue, they all shared one thing in common—excitement and anticipation for their time together at the luxurious Majestic Mirage Hotel, ready to engage, grow, and strengthen their bond in both business and life.
Upon arriving in Punta Cana, the couples were captivated by the breathtaking beauty of the Majestic Mirage Hotel, immersing themselves in the serene surroundings as they prepared their hearts and minds for a transformative experience filled with rest, education, fun, and adventure.

The retreat kicked off with a warm and inviting welcome dinner, where couples gathered to connect and enjoy a delightful meal. The evening also included an overview of the retreat schedule, which featured a well-balanced mix of activities designed to nurture both personal and professional growth. The schedule included:
- Daily Devotional Time – A moment for spiritual reflection and connection.
- Educational Sessions – Opportunities to gain valuable insights and strategies for business and marriage.
- Group Meals – A chance to foster relationships and build community.
- Recreational Activities – Fun and engaging experiences to relax and unwind.
- Free Time – Dedicated moments for each couple to rest, recharge, and enjoy quality time together.
The first night set the tone for an enriching and unforgettable retreat experience.
On Day 2 of the retreat, David and Zipporah Kimaruh led the devotional and educational session, taking a deep dive into the book How We Love by Milan and Kay Yerkovich. They provided an insightful illustration of how to effectively conduct the Comfort Cycle, a powerful communication tool that fosters a deeper emotional connection between couples.
Each couple was given the assignment to practice the Comfort Cycle on their own, applying the principles learned during the session to enhance their communication and relational skills.
According to How We Love authors Milan and Kay Yerkovich, the Comfort Cycle is designed to build listening skills and slow down conversations, enabling couples to manage reactivity and remain engaged during challenging discussions.
The session provided practical tools to help couples strengthen their relationships through intentional, empathetic communication.
On Day 3 of the retreat, Marlon and Rashida Cohen led an inspiring devotional teaching on the 7 Spiritual Principles of God, offering valuable insights on how these principles can guide and strengthen both personal and professional journeys.
Following the devotional, Gina and I introduced the concept of the 12 Seasons of Marriage, exploring how each season aligns and intersects with the natural business lifecycle. This session provided couples with a fresh perspective on navigating the complexities of marriage and business, emphasizing the importance of adaptability, resilience, and strategic planning in both areas of life.
The day was filled with rich discussions, practical applications, and meaningful reflections, equipping couples with the tools needed to thrive in their relationships and businesses.
On Day 4, we took a well-deserved excursion to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Atlantic Ocean and the pristine beaches. It was a day filled with relaxation, fun, and the opportunity to connect with one another in a refreshing environment.
While soaking in the serenity of the ocean, Juan Rodriguez led us in a meaningful devotional time, encouraging reflection and spiritual renewal amidst the natural beauty surrounding us.
The day served as a perfect balance of rest and inspiration, allowing couples to deepen their connections with each other and with God.
On our final day, Gabriel and Yolanda Abac led us in a heartfelt devotional session, guiding us through a time of reflection and gratitude. As couples, we shared in communion, symbolizing our unity and commitment to both our marriages and our calling in business. It was a powerful way to conclude our time together before departing for home.
The retreat received an outstanding rating of 5/5 from the attending couples, who expressed their excitement and anticipation for the 2025 retreat, which will once again take place at an all-inclusive destination. The dates and location will be announced by mid-February.
