Heaven in Business

Heaven in Business

WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL BY PATRICE TSAGUE

What did Jesus mean when He asked us to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”?
Can this be true for our businesses as well?
What does it mean to have heaven in business?

“In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”

Matthew 6:9-14 (NKJV)

Heaven in Business

In Jesus’ model prayer, known as the LORD’s prayer, in the second sentence, Jesus instructs us to invite the Kingdom of God to come and the Will of God to be done on earth as it is in heaven. In other words, we are invited to pray that our lives on earth reflect heaven in every way. Instead of longing to go to heaven, Jesus encourages us to invite heaven to manifest through us here on earth.

So the common saying, “You are so heavenly minded that you are no earthly good,” is not a correct statement. If we are truly heavenly-minded, we will do good, and even great things on the earth, since our lives will be reflecting heavenly values, attributes, and dimensions in everything we do. This is what “on earth as it is in heaven” means.

What about our businesses? Can this be true for our businesses as well?

Yes, heaven can be present in every aspect of our lives; our marriage, our work, and our businesses.

What does it mean for heaven to be present in our business? What impact will this have?

When your business reflects God’s perfect will in the way that opportunities, day-to-day operations, and the management of success, disappointments, and failures, then you are bringing heaven to earth through your business.

When heaven is in our business:

  1. We apply best business practice with the mind of Christ (Romans 1:20)
  2. We apply biblical principles by rightly dividing the word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
  3. We allow the Holy Spirit to manifest Himself in our business affairs (Matthew 17:20-21)
  4. God’s original intent in the garden of Eden is manifested (Genesis 1, John 1:1-3)
  5. We accept that we live in a fallen world and there are consequences to the fall
    (Genesis 3, Romans 3:23)
  6. We embrace the redemptive power of Christ despite our fallen state and imperfections (John 3:16-17, Romans 3:24)
  7. We long for God to restore all things to the way that they once were, so we have hope in the midst of challenges and crises (Revelation 21:1-5, 1 Corinthians 10:24-27)

Can you imagine heaven being present in your business? Can you imagine being able to see God’s original intent reflected in marketing, financial, administrative, and operational best practices?  Can you imagine being able to know how God wants you to approach everything you do in your business and life because heaven is present within you?

Can you imagine having peace that passes all understanding in the midst of trials and testing?

Can you imagine God’s power and grace being present with you in the midst of business meetings and board meetings?  Can you imagine God moving supernaturally through your business in ways you never thought possible?

Can you imagine your prayers being answered, receiving unusual favor, and experiencing amazing grace?  Stop imagining, pray as Jesus instructed us to, and allow His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven – through you.  By faith, invite God’s Kingdom and God’s perfect will to be in your business in every way, as it is in heaven. By faith, accept that it is present, and trust God to experience it daily.

There are countless biblical stories of individuals who experienced heaven on earth – Moses, Esther, Daniel, Joseph, and many more. There are many within the Nehemiah Entrepreneurship Community who have experienced it and are experiencing it now – from businesses being established; marriages being restored; communities being transformed; key problems being solved; physical illnesses being healed; debts being forgiven; and the forgiveness of hurts and peace in the midst of difficult situations.

When heaven comes into our business and life, things change.  My prayer for you today is that God will give you the grace to not just pray the LORD’s prayer, but also to experience the heavenly fruit of it in every area of your life and business.
