The Sun Still Stands
“So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the people had revenge upon their enemies.” – Joshua 10:13 (NKJV)
Do you believe in miracles? Are you in need of a miracle? Are you doing all you can do in the natural?
As Biblical Entrepreneurs, miracles must be a part of our worldview because they are a part of the strategy that God uses in Scripture to advance His will. These miracles can be considered God-Factors; incidents when God intervenes in the affairs of His chosen to accomplish His will.
In Joshua 10, there is a coalition of five kings who bond to defeat the children of Israel after learning how invincible they have been. Joshua and his army travel all night and without rest go to battle the five kings; Joshua needs a miracle to ensure the kings’ defeat. During the battle, Joshua prays to the Lord and declares, “‘Sun stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.’” So the sun stands still and does not go down until Joshua destroys his enemies (Joshua 10:12b-13). Joshua needs a miracle; he asks for it and receives it.
Some argue that the sun can’t stand still, therefore, this story must not be true; but with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). If we can believe that there is a God who created the heavens and the earth (Gen 1:1), can we not believe that this same God can cause solar systems to act as He chooses? Of course! The sun does not move around the earth, rather the earth moves around the sun. Theologians believe the sun stopped because there was a delay in the earth’s rotation which caused it to shine for an unusually long time, long enough for Joshua to accomplish his objectives and recognize that God granted his request.
What miracle are you in need of this year? Do you need significant cash infusion by a certain date? Do you need a significant increase in revenue? Do you need special favor with investors or the bank? Do you need special grace from your vendors or creditors? Do you need a certain sector of the economy to start performing? Do you need certain government regulations to be passed? If He can cause the sun to stand still for Joshua, who knows what He can do for you!
Whatever you need to accomplish in your plans this year, no matter how impossible or crazy it seems, make that request to God. Turn it over to the Creator of the Universe who is on your side and who you work for, and see if He will step in and perform a miracle in your favor. As you go to God, remember that He is under no obligation to meet your request and it must be a request that is according to His will. Miracles are not substitutes for doing what we know to do, instead, they complement what we do.
Joshua was prepared for battle and did all that He knew to do to and believed God for what He alone could do. Are you prepared for the year? Then believe God for what He alone can do on your behalf. Maybe He will cause the sun to stand still for you too.
My prayer for you today is that you will experience God’s supernatural hands in your life, business, or career for His glory.
