Operational Excellence

WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL BY PATRICE TSAGUE

Is your business operating with excellence? How do you define operational excellence?  Are you able to operate profitably with Kingdom impact in the midst of the current global disruption?

Let’s explore this topic together in today’s devotional:

“Those who go down to the sea in ships,
Who do business on great waters,
They see the works of the Lord,
And His wonders in the deep.
For He commands and raises the stormy wind,
Which lifts up the waves of the sea.
They mount up to the heavens,
They go down again to the depths
Their soul melts because of trouble.
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,
And are at their wits’ end.
Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He brings them out of their distresses
He calms the storm,
So that its waves are still.
Then they are glad because they are quiet;
So He guides them to their desired haven.
Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!”
– Psalm 107:23-31 (NKJV)

While the typical view of an operation is an orderly team marching, a lack of flexibility with structure, and efficiency, and yes, these are benefits of a well-run operation but operational excellence goes beyond rigid processes and military-like order. It is an agile core with a robust frame that enables you to navigate effectively in difficult situations and market environments.

Whatever you are currently facing, your business must be able to adapt and remain efficient while continuing to be profitable with Kingdom impact. In Psalm 107:23-31, we learn about entrepreneurs who face storms and major distress as they do business in great waters; they are not only able to see God work on their behalf but they give God thanks for His goodness despite the storms, distress, and trouble for it is in the midst of these challenges that God’s goodness and grace are most evident.

What are you currently facing? Is it:

  • Political divide or changes
  • Racial and social issues
  • Pandemic
  • Inflation
  • War
  • Recession
  • Life issues
  • Industry issues and changes
  • Supplies chain issues

Whatever you are going through right now, you can give thanks to the Lord for He can and will see you through. However, although Scripture ensures us that God is able to see us through difficult situations, we must do our part to prepare for them. Operational excellence enables us to be fully prepared so that no matter what life and circumstances throw at us, not only does the grace and mercy of God see us through, our preparation enables us to take the offense to propel us forward toward the purpose and call of God for our lives.

How would you define operations excellence? It is defined as:

  1. Running a transformation business with high efficiency and impact no matter the market condition
  2. Creating an organizational rhythm of high efficiency and impact despite the fact that there is chaos around
  3. Operating with internal peace and stability despite external uncertainty

No matter how you define operational excellence, it requires you to be adaptable and agile no matter your external condition. You need to keep maintaining internal peace and stability as you go through any market and personal challenges.

My prayer for you today is that God will give you the grace and wisdom to operate your business with excellence, enabling you to withstand the market and social challenges your business may face.
