Biblical Innovation

“Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.” – Genesis 3:21 (NKJV)

How do you define invention? What is your definition of innovation? Do you know the difference between the two? How did God introduce innovation to the earth in the Bible? Are you familiar with biblical innovation?

Everyone can be an innovator but not everyone can be an inventor. Innovation is man’s ability to use his creativity for the improvement or enhancement of an invention, process, or service. It is all about making things better.

Invention is the creation of something new using God’s creation. To be an inventor, innovation is required, however, innovation does not always lead to an invention. An example of how innovation and invention work together is found in Genesis 3. After man sinned, he recognized for the first time that he and his wife were naked and therefore needed something to clothe themselves. Ashamed of their nakedness, they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves, creating the first invention, clothes.

“Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.” – Genesis 3:7 (NKJV)

Invention is always born out of a need. This explains the common statement, “necessity is the mother of invention.” After God disciplined them for their sin, He had mercy on them and innovated their invention, creating something more durable and substantive by making their clothes out of animal skin. Today, this simple idea has evolved into various types of innovative clothing such as skirts, pants, dresses, t-shirts, jackets, suits, trousers, hats, etc.

“for Adam and his wife, the Lord God made tunics of skin and clothed them.” – Genesis 3:21 (NKJV)

Biblical innovation is man’s ability to tap into God’s creation to enhance useful tools to be used by society. The innovation process is man using his creativity in a manner similar to God. Innovations have greatly improved our society in the areas of health, business, entertainment, transportation, agriculture, etc. Innovations enhance society and business and improve existing products and services.

As a Biblical Entrepreneur, you may not be able to invent but you can innovate. Consider how innovation can help you improve your current business, improve society, or help you launch a new business.

My prayer for you is that God will grant you the wisdom to innovate your existing business so that you can become more efficient and profitable for His glory.
