8 Ways to Create Wealth
“And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” – Deuteronomy 8:18
Do you believe that God has called you to create wealth? How is wealth generated? What is the means that has created the most wealth in this world?
In Deuteronomy 8:18, God refers to the struggles and the trials that the Israelites will have to endure as they go through the wilderness, but He reassures them that despite the difficult times they are to endure, they will be well. He will care for them, protect them and He will provide for them. God then describes the promise land, a place where they will have access to resources, money, wealth, and blessings. But he warns them of the dangers associated with wealth. He says that wealth may cause them to turn away from him or forget who brought them to the land of abundance in the first place.
Then God leaves them with a word of advice, something to be mindful about once they have reached their success or their destination. He says they should always remember that it is because of the Lord they have the ability to produce wealth. It is because of God’s grace they have entered a season of prosperity and favor. It is only partially and not entirely due to their talents, their efforts, or their gifting, but it is purely because they are submitted to fulfilling the will of God.
But how do we reach a place of abundance? First, we need to learn about the various ways in which wealth can be generated and created:
1. Lottery
“For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:10
This is not a God-ordained method to create wealth because it is gambling. Studies have found that instead of getting people out of financial trouble, winning the lottery got people into more trouble. Many winners found themselves in a state of bankruptcy within 3-5 years after their win, along with contributing to family members battling drug addictions, and many were also subjected to theft and robbery incidents.
2. Stealing
“You shall not steal.” – Exodus 20:15
This could include stealing other’s ideas, plans, money, or property. It is not a God-ordained method to create wealth and it is illegal.
3. War
“Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the South and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire.” – 1 Samuel 30:1
This was a common way of acquiring wealth in the olden days, with many evident examples in the scriptures. It is also a reality in present days where more powerful countries create war in territories that are rich in natural resources as a means to create wealth for their nations. A good example is the war for minerals in some parts of Africa. This again is not a God-ordained method to create wealth because innocent lives are lost through this process.
4. Gift
“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” – Luke 6:38
Many times people accumulate wealth through gifts they receive. Sometimes, the Lord does lead people to bless one another with gifts. This is an acceptable means of acquiring wealth but it is unpredictable.
5. Inheritance
“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.” – Proverbs 13:22
There are many people that are wealthy through an inheritance. They earn money through a will or an estate plan after a passing of a loved one. This is an acceptable means of acquiring wealth, but you can not plan for this. You may or may not receive an inheritance, it is something that is unpredictable.
6. Job
“He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, but he who follows frivolity is devoid of understanding.” – Proverbs 12:11
Having a job is a legitimate and acceptable way to create wealth, but it can take a long time. Find a job that will lead you to opportunities, growth and development. A job that will help you fulfil God’s plan in your life.
7. Investment
“So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest.” – Matthew 25:27
This is when the money you’ve earned or inherited is used to invest in other businesses or avenues that enables you to generate more money. It is an acceptable method but you can not control the outcome of your investments.
8. Entrepreneurship
“So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.” – Matthew 25:20
Entrepreneurship is the capacity and willingness to develop, organize, and manage a business venture or enterprises. This is the means by which most wealth is created by individuals.
If you feel like God has ordained you to create wealth, then you can be doing either one or a combination of the three God-ordained methods to create wealth. Having a business is in fact the fastest, most legal, and most acceptable way for you to generate wealth and contribute to the economy of the world. Most people start out with a job, then use their savings to invest in other businesses or real estate and then later on, launch their own business.
My prayer for you today is for God to give you wisdom to create wealth so that His covenant can be realized and fulfilled.
