Renewing Your Mind
How is your mindset when dealing with a crisis? Do you have a worldly mindset or a biblical mindset? Does your mind need to be renewed?
Let’s explore this topic together in today’s devotional:
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” – Romans 12:2 (NKJV)
When you face a business or personal crisis or problem, how do you respond? Do you say “oh crap or do you say, “Lord I know you will work this together for my good.”? Do you look for who to blame or take responsibility? Do you condemn yourself or recognize what the devil is doing? Do you give up or resolve not to quit? Do you avoid the problem or face it head-on? Do you pursue the solution or pursue God? Do you become anxious and stressed or joyful and thankful?
Your mindset determines how you respond to the crisis.
No matter how great your relationship with the Lord, if you do not have the right mindset you will not be able to effectively take advantage of what He has planned for you. The right mindset takes your focus off the crisis and puts them on your blessings. What are you thankful for? How good has God been to you? How great is He? Does your mindset see the glass as half empty or half full?
Thriving in the midst of a crisis is not about how hard you work as it is about your attitude in the midst of it. You’ve heard the famous saying that your attitude will determine your altitude. I call this walking on water. A peace that passes understanding. Your circumstances have not changed and the crisis is still there but somehow you are optimistic about the future, you see possibilities and you believe that things will get better. When David’s home at Ziklag was burned with his family and resources were taken away, he had the right mindset in the midst of his crisis. His mindset was one of victory and success. His attitude was one of an overcomer.
“So David inquired of the Lord, saying, ‘Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?'” I Samuel 30:8a
David had a renewed mind! A renewed mind is one who has rejected worldly thinking and embraced Kingdom thinking. It is a mindset that always faces life challenges and opportunities from a Kingdom perspective and seeks the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
Here are the characteristics of a renewed mind:
- The glass is half full not half empty
- Focuses on the blessings and not the crisis
- Knows and believes that God can work all things together for the good of those who love Him
- Knows and believes that they can do all things through Christ who makes them strong
- Knows and believes that they are more than conquerors
- Sets their affection on things above and not beneath
- Counts it all joy when facing a crisis
Renewing the mind is not easy. It is something that must be pursued intentionally and done daily. Due to sin, our default is not to think Kingdom or biblical, instead, our default is fear, doubt, selfishness and worldly, therefore, we must be very careful to always set our affections on those things that are above and not beneath so that we can respond appropriately in times of crises. The only way to ensure that this happens is to do what the Apostle Paul said in Romans 12:1 right before he instructed us to renew our mind.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service”. Romans 12:1
Yes, in order to have a renewed mind, we must be a living sacrifice; put to death our flesh and desires.
My prayer for you today is that God will give you the grace to put to death your flesh and desire so that you may renew your mind and fulfill His purpose and plan for your life through a business no matter the crisis you face.
