NEHEMIAH WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What has God already asked of you that requires a deeper level of obedience than you are currently walking in?
How does true love for Jesus move beyond belief into daily surrender, self-denial, and action?
What might you need to leave behind in order to press fully into the upward call of God that is on your life?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Philippians 3<\/a>:13-14 (NKJV)<\/strong>
Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.<\/em><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Obedience<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ll never forget the moment that I first encountered these verses \u2013 at the time,\u00a0 I\u2019d only been a Christian for nine months or so. I\u2019ll also never forget the awe that I felt for God and also for the obedience of His servant Paul and his willingness to press inward and onward and upward \u2013 regardless of the cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul was often misunderstood, mocked, beaten, just like His Saviour, and it was often by those who felt that they were \u201cGod\u2019s appointed guardians of the Truth\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I remember getting down on my knees and saying, \u201cLORD, I want to know You as Your servant Paul did. I want to know the power of Your resurrection, and even the fellowship of Your sufferings\u2026\u201d\u2026<\/em> because, even as a \u2018baby\u2019 Christian, I somehow knew that the suffering that would Come through obedience to Christ was also the way that would lead to supernatural, glorious, abundant life and open Heavenly doors \u2013 not just for me, but for thousands and tens of thousands and even hundreds of thousands all over the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh, how much \u2018easier\u2019 it could be to be a \u2018believer\u2019 rather than a \u2018disciple\u2019 \u2026 but, Called Out and Chosen One, you know what He is calling you to do!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus said that we show our love for Him and our friendship with Him by obeying His commands (John 15:12-14)<\/strong>. <\/strong>His primary command is simply to \u201cgo\u201d (Matthew 28:19-20)<\/strong>. If we truly love Him, we will obediently deny ourselves and \u201ctake up our cross daily and follow Him\u201d<\/em> (Luke 9:23).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our walk as disciples of Jesus Christ will challenge us, and at times, it will seem beyond us. But \u2013 the cost that we are called upon to pay (and it will be different for each of us) is just so worth it, to simply show our love for Him \u2013 and then, through Christ in us (Galatians 2:20; Colossians 1:27),<\/strong>\u00a0 to be able to snatch those who are perishing out of the fire, and to help them to set their own feet upon the Solid Rock of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is always a deeper level of surrendered obedience to which God will call us. Let us honestly ask ourselves \u2013 where is our treasure? Who \u2013 and what \u2013 is it that truly makes our hearts beat faster, and captures our undying focus, our resources, and our time?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John 8:28 <\/strong>
\u201cI do nothing of Myself; but as My Father<\/em> <\/em><\/strong>taught Me, I speak these things.\u201d<\/em> <\/strong>
(see also John 12:49-50; John 14:10)<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Jesus didn\u2019t do anything unless He saw His Father doing it, and He only spoke the things that He heard His Father saying. In other words, Jesus is saying that His Father speaks to<\/strong> Him so that He can speak through<\/strong> Him, and His Father reveals Himself to<\/strong> Him, so that He can be revealed through<\/strong> Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Jesus says, you will do the same<\/em> \u2026 and even greater things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John 14:12
<\/strong>\u201cI tell you the truth, anyone who believes in Me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works \u2026\u201d<\/em><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Jesus will speak to<\/strong> us so that He can speak through<\/strong> us, and Jesus will reveal Himself to<\/strong> us so that He can be revealed through<\/strong> us.
<\/em>
<\/em>This is how His will can be done here on earth, just as it is in Heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matthew 6:10
<\/strong>\u201cYour kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as\u00a0it is\u00a0in Heaven.\u201d<\/em><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

No matter how rocky the road may seem at times, do your utmost to remain steadfast in your call by surrendering more of yourself in obedience to the LORD. Forget those things which are behind, and reach forward toward those things which are ahead. Continue to press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will not be disappointed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s pray. LORD Jesus, in times when our spirit is willing, but our flesh may be weak, please help us to choose surrendered obedience over comfort and approval. Strengthen us daily to press forward in our upward call, to willingly deny ourselves whenever necessary, and to live consistently so that Your life may be continually be revealed through us, for the sake of Your Kingdom. Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
