{"id":56849,"date":"2024-03-04T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-04T11:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nehemiahecommunity.com\/members\/?p=56849"},"modified":"2024-03-04T05:46:09","modified_gmt":"2024-03-04T10:46:09","slug":"sight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nehemiahecommunity.com\/members\/devotionals\/sight\/","title":{"rendered":"As a Man Sees \u2013 The Power of Sight","gt_translate_keys":[{"key":"rendered","format":"text"}]},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL BY PATRICE TSAGUE<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you understand the power of sight?<br>What are your eyes, and therefore your attention, focused on?<br>Are you focused on your problems and the world\u2019s riches, or are you focused on Jesus and His promises?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\"><em>\u2026 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. <\/em><strong>\u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%2012%3A2&version=NKJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)<\/a><\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">As a Man Sees \u2013 The Power of Sight<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Our eyes have the power to either draw us away from the things of God or keep us focused on God\u2019s plan for our lives. The opening phrase of <strong>Hebrews 12:2<\/strong> is also translated as <em>\u201cfixing our eyes on Jesus\u201d<\/em> or <em>\u201ckeeping our eyes fixed on Jesus,\u201d<\/em> denoting an unwavering focus on Him and attentiveness to Him. What we primarily focus our eyes and therefore our attention on will go a long way toward determining our destiny.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eve was tricked by Satan into focusing her eyes on the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and it led her and also her husband Adam to eat the forbidden fruit <strong>(Genesis 3:1-6)<\/strong>. This led to the fall of man. While attempting to walk on water, instead of focusing on Jesus, who was calling him to come to Him, Peter focused on the boisterous wind and began to sink<strong> (Matthew 14:28-30)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Jesus was being tempted in the wilderness by the devil, and offered the kingdoms of this world and their splendor if He would bow down and worship him,\u00a0 Jesus kept His eyes fixed and focused on the Word and upon His mission <strong>(Matthew 4:1-11)<\/strong>. That led Him to defeat the devil and to successfully launch His ministry.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are your eyes focused on?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are your eyes focused on the success and riches you will achieve through business, or on the rewards that come through faithfully carrying out God\u2019s plan for your life? Are your eyes focused on global and personal challenges, or on the joy that God gives us in the midst of trials? Are your eyes focused on your business and personal issues, or are they focused on the Lord and His promises?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What your eyes focus on will shape you and go a long way toward determining your destiny. After the writer of Hebrews finished his \u2018Hall of Faith\u2019 message in <strong>Hebrews 11<\/strong>, he began <strong>Hebrews 12<\/strong> with these words, \u201c<em>Therefore we also, <\/em><em>since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, since we have all these \u2018heroes of the faith,\u2019 whose stories speak of God\u2019s faithfulness and goodness, let\u2019s stop focusing our attention on all the problems we are facing and the temptations that lure us, and instead focus our attention and fix our eyes upon Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What does it mean to focus our eyes on Jesus? It means prioritizing the importance, time, and attention given to applying the following to every aspect of our lives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Word of God<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>God\u2019s promises<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The price that Jesus paid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The power of His resurrection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The significance of Christ\u2019s return<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>It means acknowledging the personal significance of each of these things, and living our lives while focused upon them so that the storms of life cannot shift us from our destiny in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are your eyes focused on?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you focusing on Jesus, or are you focusing on your problems and the temptations of this world?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For all that is in the world \u2013 the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life \u2013 is not of the Father but is of the world.<\/em><strong> \u2013 1 John 2:16 (NKJV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember, what your eyes, and therefore your attention, are focused on will shape you and go a long way toward determining your destiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>My prayer for you today is that God will help you to keep your focus on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith, rather than on <a href=\"https:\/\/nehemiahecommunity.com\/\">your business<\/a> and personal problems so that everything will be placed into the correct perspective and your divine destiny will be fulfilled.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">This devotional was taken from the book <strong>The Buck Stops With You, <\/strong>by Patrice Tsague and Gabrielle E.
