{"id":5490,"date":"2013-11-04T08:44:52","date_gmt":"2013-11-04T16:44:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nehemiah.pivotdev.com\/?p=5490"},"modified":"2020-03-16T23:20:39","modified_gmt":"2020-03-17T06:20:39","slug":"compete-versus-complete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nehemiahecommunity.com\/members\/devotionals\/compete-versus-complete\/","title":{"rendered":"Compete Versus Complete","gt_translate_keys":[{"key":"rendered","format":"text"}]},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-background has-very-light-gray-background-color\"><em>\u00a0\u201cI planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.\u201d<\/em> \u2013 <strong>I Corinthians 3:6<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How competitive are you?\u00a0 Do you know how to compete in the kingdom?\u00a0 Do you understand that it is about completing each other rather than competing against each other?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m of Paul and another says I\u2019m of Apollos\u201d was the debate that went on among the Corinthians as they argued over who was their favorite Apostle.\u00a0 I imagine the debate topics must have sounded a little like this: \u201cWhich Apostle is more eloquent?\u201d \u201dWho hears from God the best?\u201d \u201dWho is the best teacher?\u201d \u201dWho has the greatest anointing?\u201d\u00a0 To that argument, the Apostle Paul responded, \u201cThis attitude is carnal and not of God. None of us is important, only Christ. We complete each other rather than compete against each other. God will reward each of us individually according to each person\u2019s own labor, and there is enough to go around.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without a doubt, there is always competition in the marketplace. It exists not only between profit making enterprises, but also in the Not for Profit sector, including churches.\u00a0 Our economic policy even encourages competition to avoid the creation of a monopoly.\u00a0 Our anti-monopoly laws are designed to ensure that no one company has complete control over one sector of the market, a privilege that would enable them to charge whatever price they wanted, because the customers would have no choice but to buy from them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though the concept of competition has been abused, and many have employed unethical and sometimes illegal practices to top the competition or gain market dominance, competition can be a good thing.\u00a0 There are several benefits to competition, including the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It gives customers a choice<\/li><li>It motivates us to do our best<\/li><li>It challenges our faith<\/li><li>It provides better prices for the customer<\/li><li>It removes from the marketplace those who are not called<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>With so many benefits of competition, the problem then becomes the attitude of those of us who are competing.\u00a0 Within a competitive environment, we must cultivate an attitude of completion rather than competition.\u00a0 A competitive attitude believes that there is not enough to go around and views the opponent as an enemy who must be brought down. On the other hand, the spirit of completion believes there is more than enough and sees the opponent as a fellow comrade in the service of customers or a potential soul to be won for Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are the key differences between a competitive spirit and the spirit of completion?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"\"><tbody><tr><td><b>Completion\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><\/td><td><strong>Competition <\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Sees God as their source<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Sees their efforts as their source<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Sees resources as abundant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Sees resources as scarce<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Sees the opponent as a comrade<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Sees the opponent as an enemy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Understands it is spiritual warfare<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Thinks it is physical warfare<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Seeks first the kingdom<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Seeks things<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Focuses on the best interest of the customer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Focuses on the best interest of their company<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Recognizes the value of others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Only sees their own value<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Salvation is the goal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><td>\n<ul>\n<li>Profits and winning is the goal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>What about those competitors who do not share our values and employ ungodly methods to harm us?
