kissing couple photo for blog - Nehemiah E-Community

Hmmm…that subject line sent me into a sweet little “day-dream”, as I drifted off in thoughts of my husband and a long romantic kiss. But – the truth be told, those kind of kisses don’t happen every day. It’s not that we don’t love each other…but somehow bringing “a little romance” into our everyday lives has gotten lost in the shuffle of everything else!?!

Now, we know that marriage is a “mixed bag.” Some of you are still in the honeymoon phase (whoo hoo!) – while others are about to throw in the towel (PLEASE don’t do that!). But, regardless of where you find yourself – we want to share this gift of a recent blog post by our pastor. We pray it will encourage you as it did us…that it will bring:

  • fresh joy – and romance – to good marriages,
  • new hope to those who are struggling,
  • the courage (and resources) to make your marriage GREAT!

Christ said, “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)

And we would suggest that love begins at home – in our marriages and families!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Kiss Me Like You Mean It

January 16, 2013

I’ve received a ton of feedback from last weekend’s message on marriage: “Help! My Marriage Needs New Life.” I encourage you to watch it if you weren’t able to attend. And in my previous post I shared a few of the diagnostic questions to determine the level of spiritual intimacy and emotional intimacy in your marriage.

Now I want to share some resources that you can dig into to help your marriage go deeper and experience more life. I went out to lunch this week with Dr. David Clarke, a local psychologist and author who has helped many folks at Van Dyke Church. He has spoken at Van Dyke before and shared his insights. I asked him to recommend a few of his books that would be helpful for marriages just wanting a new spark of life and marriages that may be in deep trouble.

Here’s some you can find on

  • Kiss Me Like You Mean It: Solomon’s Crazy In Love      How-To Manual
  • A Marriage After God’s Own Heart
  • What To Do When Your Spouse Says “I Don’t Love You      Anymore.”: An Action Plan to Regain Confidence, Power and Control.
  • I Don’t Want A Divorce: A 90 Day Guide to Saving      Your Marriage

And Dr. Clarke’s newest book just released:

  • Married But Lonely: Stop Merely Existing, Start      Living Intimately

This book will show you 7 steps you can take with our without your spouse’s help.

I hope these resources will be helpful to you and your spouse and/or to a friends you know who would benefit from one or more of these books.
