Walking along side my daughter as she fights her battle with breast cancer can get the best of me some days.
Just being a Mom can be hard.
Being the Mom of a child facing huge challenges…even harder.
Little did I know how hard it would be when the doctors looked at us and said, “this is going to be hard.”
I’m learning.
But God!
But for His strength, His mercy, His grace…
But for the power of His living and active Word…
I would probably spend most my days curled up in bed crying.
But God!
He has not asked me to walk this alone.
Friends…Family…Prayer warriors world wide…and YOU – my blog buddies…
But most of all, after prior marriage – divorce – and plenty of relationship chaos…He gave me Tom.
My husband – my life partner – a man who loves Jesus and starts EVERY day in prayer and pouring over the Scriptures.
He has let me cry.
He has let me just “be”.
He knows that some days the most I can do is simply put one foot in front of the other.
Yet…he encourages…He loves…He helps…He supports.
And now…this strong…task-oriented…get up and go… “you are the sum of your life choices” kind of guy has given me an amazing gift!
No…it was not wrapped up with a bow on top…it was not a bouquet of flowers…it was a coaching tool.
Yikes…really!?!
Yes…really!!! And it is soooooo powerful, I want to share it with you too.
It is a way to make meaningful change fun!
It is a way to keep yourself accountable and moving forward!
It’s a scorecard.
One you create – based on what you know you need to be doing, but have a hard time staying on track to accomplish.
Here’s how it works:
Pick 4 things you want to do each day…or consistently each week…and make a score sheet.
Here’s what mine looks like:
- Eat “heart healthy” (trying to prevent the need for cholesterol lowering drugs)
- 30+ minutes of exercise (fighting osteoporosis and trying to rebuild bone strength)
- Quiet time with the Lord (my only source of strength – and I have to stay strong for Amanda!)
- Time with family, friends or some creative outlet (feeds my soul…and helps me “breath”)
At the end of each day…I actually take out my scorecard and put stars in the columns where I have been successful. The goal – a life of 4 star days!
Then…I added a couple bonus categories…I get a heart for each of these:
- Read 30+ minutes (continue my commitment to Life Long Learning!)
- 10,000 steps a day (got to beat this fit-bit thing…ugh…but YES, I can do it!)
This may sound silly…but try it and see. It has helped me so much.
AND…it’s part of how I believe God is giving me that peace that passes all understanding.
You too might be amazed at what happens?
PS…
Did you notice how I gave you the reason those things are on my scorecard?
Your WHY is even more important than your WHAT!
Your WHY is what will keep you going when you don’t want to do the WHAT!
See you again soon and let me know how it’s going?
