In my last blog post, I wrote about the joy I have knowing that my children are walking with the Lord…
Today, I stand in awe as I offer a glimpse into the writing of my youngest – Amanda – as she shares her heart and the amazing way God is working in her life:
So often I have wondered… Why is it that I am always looking forward to the next stage in life or the next big event? Why can’t I find satisfaction in the everyday?
In high school I couldn’t wait to graduate and be in college.
In college I couldn’t wait to graduate and get married.
Once married I couldn’t wait to have children.
Now that I have children I catch myself longing for the days when they will no longer be toddlers.
All this time I am focused on what I think will make me happy (the next stage) instead of enjoying the present. – Over the years I have realized this is my pattern and wondered why I couldn’t stop these feelings.
The other day I was reading “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young and I finally grabbed hold of what I was missing…
As she puts it:
“ Human beings have a voracious appetite for trying to figure things out in order to gain a sense of mastery over their lives. But the world presents you with an endless series of problems. As soon as you master one set, another pops up to challenge you. The relief you had anticipated is short-lived. Soon your mind is gearing up again: searching for understanding (mastery) instead of seeking ME (your master).”
There it was in black and white – an explanation for the very thing that consumed my thoughts so often. I have continually lived for the relief of “solving the problem” then realizing once it was solved I still didn’t find peace. Another problem just arose in its place. I had been trying to master my life and problems instead of seeking God – The Master – The only source of true Peace.
I think for the first time I truly understand what Proverbs 3:5 is saying, “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding”.
Learning to live for today – and seeking God for my Peace instead of the relief of the next phase in life.
God is the Lord of Peace (2 Thes. 3:16) and thru Christ we have access to His Peace at all times! (Rom 5:1).
Yes indeed – no greater joy!
