iStock_000029215290XSmallWhat a pleasure it was to spend much of December in the book of Philippians.  I had planned to zip through it in a matter of days, but found myself mesmerized by how many of my favorite scriptures are in that one small 4-chapter book – like  Philippians 3:13-14:

“But this one thing I do:  Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,  I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

I first discovered this powerful verse when I was a brand new Christian.  It helped me as I struggled to take hold of the Truth that my sins had truly been forgiven.  You know…”separated as far as east is from west”.  “Remembered no more”.  Well…God may not remember, but I sure did.  Again and again I repeated…”forgetting what lies behind…forgetting what lies behind…”until it finally took root in my soul.  Thank you Lord that I can now bask in the truth of this scripture and stand firm in my forgiveness and the finished work of Jesus on the cross.

Then as I stepped into the work of Identity and Destiny – I began focusing on the next part:  “pressing on toward the goal” to which I KNOW I have been called.   Even when I cannot see what is next, or how it will all play out – I press!  It seems I am living this part of the verse every day.

But now…I’ve seen something new.

It is the first sentence: “But this one thing I do.”

Hmmm…do you think we can get distracted?

Do you think we can miss the “one thing” when we have so much on our plate that we simply stay busy…yet not focused on what God is really calling us to do?

Yep…that would be me…and I guess it could be you too?

But how can we know what that “one thing” really is?

I have been seeking the Lord with that question throughout the month of December.

I want 2014 to be His work…not my list of great ideas and new things to do.

I want to do that “one thing”…and do it to the best of my ability…with excellence for the Lord!!!

So here is what He is saying:  “Break it down, Pam.”

And he is reminding me to go back to when He first called me to this work of I & D.  He is telling me to focus on the 3 elements of my purpose – just as He revealed it 4 years ago:

Identity – the very core essence of who He has designed and wired me to be.

Destiny – the way the Holy Spirit wants to work in this world through me.

Assignment – the thing he has for me to do right now.  Not the laundry list – but the one thing that He is asking me to do next.

Thankfully, having gone through Identity and Destiny – 7 Steps to purpose – I know my identity, destiny and assignment.

And – my current assignment?

To come along side my husband to build Identity and Destiny.  Together we are to train, equip and support a world-wide community of 1000 Licensed Facilitators who will carry the message of purpose out into the world.  The message that “we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, to do good works which He has prepared in advance for us to do”. (Ephesians 2:10)

Tom and I are compelled to do “this one thing”…for we know deep down in our souls that God wants each and every one of his children to find AND live their God-given purpose!

Yes Sir, I hear you loud and clear Lord.  I am refocused and on task for you!

That is my mantra for 2014.

How about you?

Are you ready to break it down and get focused?

Ask, seek and knock.  You will find the answers you need.
